Here's a little about me
Journey - Philosophy - Professional Experience - Cover Letter - Resume
From an early age, I knew I wanted to work in education, but my passion for counseling and student support developed through hands-on experiences in mental health, behavioral interventions, and academic advising. I earned my B.A. in Human Services from Ottawa University and later pursued my M.S. in Counseling with a specialty in School Counseling from the University of Phoenix.
Over the years, I’ve worked with students of all ages and backgrounds, supporting them through academic challenges, social-emotional growth, and post-secondary planning. My experience spans elementary and secondary counseling, as well as leadership roles in behavior interventions, MTSS, and college/career readiness.
Beyond traditional counseling, I’ve also worked in residential mental health care, providing direct support for children and teens with trauma histories and psychiatric disorders. These experiences have shaped my belief that every student deserves a champion—someone who advocates for them, helps them navigate challenges and gives them the tools to succeed.
I believe that every student is capable of growth and success when provided with the right support, resources, and opportunities. My counseling approach is:
Student-Centered – Prioritizing individual needs while fostering independence and resilience.
Data-Driven – Utilizing MTSS, PBIS, and intervention tracking to make informed, strategic decisions.
Equity-Focused – Ensuring that all students, regardless of background or barriers, have access to opportunities that support their academic and personal success.
Solution-Oriented – Rooted in Reality/Choice Therapy, my approach helps students focus on the present and future, equipping them with tools to make informed decisions and take ownership of their success.
My goal is to empower students through guidance, structure, and proactive interventions, helping them build confidence in their abilities and take charge of their future.
I have been a school counselor since 2013, working in elementary, middle, and high school settings. Throughout my career, I have taken on leadership roles that extend beyond counseling, allowing me to shape schoolwide student success initiatives.
