AP Tests Begin in May!
Requests for accommodations on AP (and SAT, or ACT) exams are not submitted by the school. These requests must be initiated by the student or parent directly through the testing organization. Collegeboard (and ACT) are the entities that review and determine whether accommodations are approved.
If you plan to pursue accommodations through Collegeboard, you may also want to select the SAT option during the process so that any approved accommodations apply to both AP and SAT testing.
Should you run into issues, Collegeboard can be contacted at 844-255-7728
If your student is not currently using extended time on assessments in their classes, we typically do not recommend requesting extended time for external exams. Once accommodations are approved, students must test in the accommodated testing room and cannot move back to the standard testing room if a decision changes later. If approved, you are approved for all applicable AP Exams and will be placed in separate testing locations for all exams.
Students testing with extended time often complete their exam before the allotted time but must remain in the testing environment until the testing session ends. This can make for a longer testing experience than many students anticipate. The expectation when an exam is finished is to review answers, no other materials are permitted in the testing room.
If approved, your child will likely be scheduled to test in a smaller room with appropriate spacing per Collegeboard expectations. If there are other students in the room your child will need to wait while that student finishes. Many exams are already 3 Hour exams.
If documentation is required for an accommodation request, your child's School Counselor can assist with providing a copy of the student’s current 504 plan.
College Credit - Some colleges do offer college credit for certain scores on an AP Exam. Families do need to check with the college regarding their policies. https://apstudents.collegeboard.org/getting-credit-placement/search-policies
Dual (CHS/RS) vs AP - Dual Enrollment classes tend to have a better chance of college acceptance for credits and allows for students to have the "college experience". AP is great for have a nationally recognized curriculum on your transcript, weighted GPA and allows for students to stay in the high school setting. There is multiple factors to consider. When families are concerned about earning college credit they should check with the college systems for which they are applying.
Order Status - Exams are ordered for all students who complete their MyAP course registration during the first two weeks of school. Most teachers did this in class with the students. Once you make a payment that receipt serves as confirmation that the exam will remain ordered.
Beginning the day after the closure of registration, any student who has not paid will have their test order changed to "No". An email will also be sent to all AP families with instructions for checking MyAP once I cancel unpaid exam orders. Teachers will also be provided with a roster of students that have ordered an exam. If there are any concerns after that date, there will be a short window to make corrections before Collegeboard late fees apply.
Your student can log in to their MyAP account to confirm that their test has been ordered.
Due to the volume of students taking an AP exam, families need to follow the registration steps and review emails sent. Exams are bulk ordered based on payment within the InTouch system.
Other Exams - Do you offer exams for classes you do not teach? Unfortunately we are not able to offer exams for courses we do not teach due to the costs incurred and not covered by Collegeboard. You can use this website to find other sites that do offer the exam https://apcourseaudit.inflexion.org/ledger/
Performance - Do students that take AP Exams perform better in college? There is no study to our knowledge that shows that students in AP classes do better in college then non-AP students.
Requirement - AP Exams are not a requirement in order to pass the class. Students tend to take the exam for multiple reasons including earning college credit and standing out on college applications.
